Aero Modellers of Coominya (AMoC) was formed way back in 1973 by a couple of young blokes who wanted to give this thing of remote-controlled planes a go.
Everyone tried to tell them that they were mad, but, well, if you knew them, you'd know why
There next job was trying to convince the the old fella up the road who was known for his watermelons, to allow them to use some of his paddock.
He already had a runway for the cropdusters, so why wouldn't he be just as crazy and let them have a go at these magnicent flying machines!
Well, no-one can remember what really happened at the start, but we can all imagine. Cough Cough a few wrecks maybe..
What started out as a bit of ‘What the hell mate. All we can do is crash it’ has led the club to what it is today.
With an aim to foster, promote and encourage the hobby of aeromodelling in the Coominya and surrounding districts.
By forwarding on the knowledge and knowhow that has been given from the people beforehand and the experience that they have learnt.
All kinds of aircraft are seen at the field. They range from small electrics all the way to nitro and petrol-powered planes stealing the show with an odd chopper thrown in to. Even a couple cars have been known to roam the paddock.
Some are hand built from scratch, some from kits, and even some from foam or plastic. There is a mixture of all sorts.
With a bunch of friendly and easy-going modellers that simply enjoy not only the friendship, but also the chance to have fun while having a fly.
Our club is 1.5 km’s from the Coominya township which gives the flying field easy access from Ipswich, Esk or Gatton regions. To be honest, you could come from just about anywhere.
Whether you’re a seasoned flyer, a weekend warrior, a beginner or just someone that wants to have fun while in the company of some amazing people, then AMoC is your place to be.
We play on a Sunday, so if you would like to come out and have a chat or a fly or just to get information about remote control flying, then pop on in.
But like all sports, there is some restrictions to abide by. These will be explained on the day of visit.
Aero Modellers of Coominya is affiliated with the Model Aeronautical Association of Queensland (MAAQ).
The MAAQ is the body delegated by the Model Aeronautical Association of Australia (MAAA) to be responsible for all aspects of model flying in Queensland.
